The Council of Churches of Malaysia has condemned the seizing of Christian childrens books that are deemed offensive to Islam, but it remains unclear when and where Christian childrens books will be returned to book stores.

Officials of the 'Publications and Alquran Texts Control Department' of the Internal Security Ministry seized the English language Christian childrens books from bookshops in three states....Johor Baru, Negeri Sembilan and Perak.

Illustrations of Prophets in the Christian childrens books are said to offend the sensitivities of Muslims. This news comes after a Malaysian Church and a Christian weekly newspaper announced  they were suing the government for banning them for using the word "Allah" - which means God in many languages, referring to the Muslim God and can only be used by Muslims.

Organizations have expressed concerns that they are seeing too many cases underscoring what they see as the "creeping of Islamisation in society" in Malaysia. They claim it has polarized citizens from diverse backgrounds and that seizing Christian childrens books is just not acceptable.

Christians comprise roughly 9% of the 25 million population of this Southeast Asia nation.
